Barrier aggressive at the kennel door. Jumpy/mouthy. Needs an active home. Dog selective. Friendly, affectionate. Recommend placement with kids 12 and up.
Handling Evaluation.
Dog barked at the kennel door when handler approached, (quick high pitched barks.) Full body wiggling, tail wagging loose and high. Clipped leash to martingale collar, some mouthing. (Mild teeth contact while moving head/mouth around, 2-3 red marks that faded in appx 60 seconds.) Walked around the facility. Moderate pulling on leash, pulling toward scents. Passed by 3-4 other dogs in kennels. Barked at one of the dogs, (dog was barking at this dog,) sniffed the others nose-to-nose with loose wiggly body and moved on without prompting from handler. Let off-leash in the yard, stayed by handler. Rolled over for belly rubs when handler started petting. Handled head, ears, mouth, neck, torso, legs, paws. Leashed dog and returned to kennel.
Dog may require more exercise than currently getting in the shelter. Behavior may be shelter-specific.
Evaluate with other dogs in multiple situations. Recommend increasing daily exercise from what is being offered in the shelter. DISCLOSE dog has been mouthy in the shelter. Provide fosters/adopters with "Jumpy/Mouthy" handouts. Recommend handlers work with a qualified dog trainer if these behaviors are seen outside of the shelter environment.
